A pair of Swedish Gustavian style painted wood breakfront chests from the late 19th century, with dentil molding, marbleized tops, canted corners and fluted accents. Born in Sweden during the third quarter of the 19th century, each of this pair of two-drawer commodes presents the stylistic characteristics of the Gustavian era. Each chest is adorned with a faux-marble top with canted corners in the front, sitting above a dentil molding. The breakfront façade is made of two dovetailed drawers each fitted with classical style hardware, and is flanked with fluted and canted side posts. The chests are raised on elegant tapered legs, angled in the front and are painted in a light color typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palette, aiming at brightening the homes of Sweden during the long, dark winters.
